Harmony – Susan Robertson

Harmony – Susan Robertson

Harmony is defined as agreement in action, opinion, or feeling; a sense of order or congruity of parts to their whole. The metaphysical meaning of harmony is perfect accord with the goodness, the beauty and the righteousness of omnipresent Spirit.

When harmony is achieved, love and compassion for all dominates our world view. I think of harmony in music. In an orchestra there are numerous instruments, each unique and different. The gentle stringed instruments, the bright cheery wind instruments, the majestic percussive instruments. Each makes its own sound playing a part in the symphony. Each contributes to the piece of music and blends together to make pleasant harmonious sounds. Ebbing and flowing, they join together to create something more inviting and complex than themselves individually. No instrument is better or more important than another. Each is a valuable member of the whole.

The Bible instructs us to live in harmony with one another and be compassionate and humble, making every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification. As God’s chosen people, we are to clothe ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bearing with each other and forgiving whatever grievances we may have against one another. When we are peaceful and collaborate with each other, respecting and valuing each person, we can live in harmony. Harmony is when there is resonance and joy, celebration and sharing; our hearts resonate together.

We are all valuable instruments in the orchestration of life and its sense of harmony. We explore the possibilities of living in a world of harmony, peace and understanding.
